**St. Benedicts has pulled out of the Planet Athlete Showcase at Shaler this weekend. They will be replaced by Quality
Education from North Carolina, who features 6'10" Georgetown recruit, Brandon Bolden. The rest of the schedule remains
the same.

  • Beaver Fall's 6'7" senior Sheldon Jeter continues to develop more recruiting interest. After being offered by
Wisconsin last week, South Carolina followed with an offer of their own yesterday. Pitt's head coach Jamie Dixon
was also in attendance to watch Jeter. A number of schools including Penn State are high on his radar, and he
currently has offers from Arkansas, Seton Hall, and about half a dozen mid major programs.

  • If you haven't heard by now, Highland's 6'2" senior Micah Mason is close to reaching the 2,000 point milestone. He
is only 7 points shy of the mark, and will have the opportunity to reach this amazing milestone, this Friday at home
    against Burrell.

  • Could there be a couple of other 2,000 point scorers waiting in the wings? Hempfield's Kason Harrell is currently
leading his team as a freshman with close to 17 ppg. Freshman Antonio Kellum from Lincoln Park is averaging
double figures for the Leopards, and has serious scoring ability. And Chartiers Valley's freshman Matt McConnell has
come on late in the season with recent games of 18 and 19 points. 2,000 has only been accomplished by 26 players
in the history of the WPIAL.

  • There are three remaining unbeaten teams in the WPIAL in Chartiers Valley, New Castle, and Montour. There will be
only two unbeaten teams at most after Saturday, as Montour will play New Castle in the "Coaches vs Cancer Clash
of the Titans" at Geneva College. Both Montour and New Castle are beating opponents by a near identical average of
right around 28ppg. Two of the top juniors in the WPIAL in Devin Wilson and Shawn Anderson will try and keep
their respective team's record perfect. The game takes place on Saturday at 8pm.

  • Besides the event at Geneva, there are two other basketball showcases taking place this weekend. First off,
Pittsburgh Basketball Club's John Giammarco is holding his annual Pittsburgh Basketball Classic at Robert Morris on
Sunday Jan. 22. The event will feature some top local talent, as well as a match up between Chartiers Valley and
Montour at 5pm. The Schedule is:

January 22nd - Quaker Valley vs. Bishop Canevin (11 a.m.); Aliquippa vs. Upper St. Clair (12:30 p.m.); Greensburg Central
Catholic vs. West Mifflin (2 p.m.); Sto-Rox vs. South Fayette (3:30 p.m.); Chartiers Valley vs. Montour (5:00 p.m.) and
Allderdice vs. Seneca Valley (6:30 p.m.).

  • Also, Planet Athlete will be holding its first ever Pittsburgh High School Showcase, including local, national, and
international talent. The event includes local teams like Pittsburgh Central Catholic, Shaler, Woodland Hills, and Mt.
Lebanon, as well as, local private schools many people haven't seen like Kiski Prep, Imani Christian, and Propel
Charter School. It will also include out of state teams in Quality Education (NC), Arlington Country Day (FL), and
Princeton Day (MD). Canadian teams, Phase 1 Academy and REDA will also participate in the event. Arlington
Country Day has Torian Graham (NC State), as well as other division 1 prospects, and is currently ranked #10 by
USA Today. The schedule is as follows:

Jan. 21 -- Propel Andrew Street vs. REDA High (1 p.m); Mt. Lebanon vs. Princeton Day (2:30 p.m.); Score Academy vs.
REDA National (4 p.m.); Imani Christian vs. Phase 1 Academy (5:30 p.m.); Central Catholic vs. St. Benedict's (7 p.m.).

Jan. 22 -- Score Academy vs. Phase 1 (noon); Imani Christian vs. REDA (1:30 p.m.); Woodland Hills vs. Phase 1 (3 p.m.);
Kiski School vs. REDA (4:30 p.m.); Shaler vs. Princeton Day (6 p.m.);
Quality Education vs. Arlington Country Day (7:30
p.m.)

  • Pittsburgh Basketball Report is now introducing a weekly poll to see what YOU the fans are thinking. The first poll
question was: "Who is the top team in the WPIAL?" With an amazing 984 votes, the results were:

1) Lincoln Park - 568 votes = 58%
2) Monessen - 117 votes = 12%
3) Chartiers Valley - 86 votes = 9%

After speaking with a Lincoln Park player, I found out that the entire school got involved in the voting process!

This week's question is: " "Who is the best guard in the WPIAL? (point or shooting guard)"
Understand that I did not include Sheldon Jeter and others, because I consider them small forwards, which will be on
another poll. Also, unfortunately Kiski Prep and Imani Christian are not WPIAL teams, so they are not included in this
specific poll.******The poll is only supposed to allow you to vote ONCE! If you are able to find some loophole, please
respect the poll and do not vote more than once!! Thank you.
