Weekend Roundup

With lots of tournaments and showcases, the weekend's basketball did not stop with the Friday night section games. The Coaches vs. Cancer, Planet Athlete, and
Pittsburgh Basketball Classic all showcased some of the area's top talent. Here are some notes:

In the
Planet Athlete Showcase at Shaler,  local teams took care of business. Pittsburgh Central Catholic defeated Quality Education (NC) 64-62, led by Lincoln
Davis' 28 points. Mt. Lebanon defeated Reda High School (CAN) 53-41, led by Luke Hagy's 17 points. Shaler defeated Princeton Day Academy (MD) 81-57,
led by Geno Thorpe's 18 points, and solid play inside by senior JP Holtz (14 points). The Kiski School defeated REDA National 68-61, led by the play of Major
Canady and Jesse Reed.

On Saturday at the Coaches vs Cancer Classic at Geneva College, Beaver Falls defeated Farrell 64-31 behind 20 points from Sheldon Jeter and 18 points from
Drew Cook. Lincoln Park beat Sewickley Academy 80-31 in a blowout. Lincoln Park had four people in double figures, led by Trey Hosack's 23 points. North
Catholic beat East Liverpool (OH) 70-59, behind four players in double figures, including Danny Savulchak's 30 points.
New Castle took care of business against
Montour as they won 68-58. New Castle was led by Shawn Anderson's 18 points, Corey Eggleston's 17 points, and Anthony Richard's 14 points. The Red
Hurricanes are the only remaining undefeated team in the WPIAL. On a side note, Montour was missing one of its starters and main contributors, Dillon Buechel.
He was on a recruiting visit to New Hampshire.

However, In the
Pittsburgh Basketball Classic at Robert Morris on Sunday, upon Buechel's return, Montour defeated Chartiers Valley 61-49. Montour was led
by senior Dillon Buechel's 22 points. Chartiers Valley was held to their lowest point total of the season.
Greensburg Central Catholic defeated West Mifflin 56-54,
led by Zach Herman (18), PJ Mclaughlin (16), and Ben Klimchock (14). Mclaughlin scored his 1,000th career point. Seneca Valley defeated Allderdice 75-59
with 5 players in double figures.Sto Rox defeated South Fayette 55-51, led by Lamonte Harrison's 19 points. Upper St. Clair defeated Aliquippa 68-53 led by
Derik Young (15), JJ Conn (15), and Jordan Grabowski (13).
