Notes From the First Week of The Season
By: Steve Brodzinski - Pittsburgh Basketball Report
- Micah Mason scored 40 and 31 in his first two games, and became Highland's all-time leading scorer. Huge accomplishment for Mason, but may be only bright
spot in a season that will be very rough, due to the lack of help he has around him.
-Lincoln Davis had a 21 point performance against North Carolina commit Nate Britt down in Washington D.C. Central Catholic lost the game 64-74, but Davis'
performance did not go unnoticed. He received a scholarship offer from Hofstra University the next day.
-According to MaxPreps.com, the Kiski School's Major Canady is currently leading the nation in assists per game.
- Nolan Cressler scored his 1,000th career point for Plum. Currently averaging 25.3 points through his first three games.
-New Castle is off to a 3-0 start, which includes a big 16 point win over AAA #3 Hampton. However, Hampton was missing senior big man Mark Pilarski in the
contest. Still, New Castle is proving early why they were pre-season #1.
-Class AA defending champs Monessen started the season at 3-0 with wins over two different class AAAA opponents, and one class AAA opponent in
Blackhawk.
-Brandon Camic is making the most of his senior year thus far, with his Serra Catholic team off to a 3-0 start. Camic, who had to sit out last year due to transfer
issues, is averaging just under 25 ppg through three games. Senior Shaun Menzies is also off to a hot start, with an 18 point, 17 rebound game against Quigley to
start the season, and 21 points with 23 rebounds against Shady Side Academy.
- A young Peters Township team is off to a 3-0 start, behind the solid play of juniors Gabe Pritz and Dakota Norton.
-Football star Dontez Ford has been very good for Sto-Rox so far this season, as they are off to a 4-0 start.
-North Allegheny is off to a 3-0 start led by senior guard JC Howard. Howard is averaging close to 23 ppg.
